Four Mississippi boaters rescued from disable fishing boat in bayou
NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The Coast Guard rescued three Mississippi preachers and a five-year-old boy from their disabled fishing boat in the bayou of Lake Eugene near New Orleans last night.
Rescued were 65-year-old Billy Smith of Foxworth, Mississippi, and 54-year-old James Rockco, Rockco's five-year-old grandson, Dakota Rockco, and 54-year-old Mil Dykes, all from Jayess, Mississippi.
The three United Pentecostal Church preachers and the young child left Breton Sound Marina early yesterday morning in hopes of catching some redfish. As the sun set, the boat's engine failed and the group realized it was lost and decided to call 911 for help from a cell phone.
A Coast Guard helicopter rescue crew from New Orleans was dispatched to the scene and located the boaters about 30 miles east of New Orleans and hoisted them from the vessel.
