More bodies expected in New Orleans; new flooding could complicate
LAST UPDATE: 9/22/2005 4:52:05 AM

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Searchers continue looking for bodies from Hurricane Katrina. More than one-thousand people are confirmed dead along the Gulf Coast and that figure is on the rise.

Most of the casualties have been in
New Orleans
, where about 500 searchers are breaking into locked homes in areas where the floods first hit three and a-half weeks ago. The elderly make up most of the victims, but searchers are also finding bodies of children.

It's difficult work. Searchers have to wear masks to ward off the mold and stench. Many of the homes aren't safe to enter. Others are under piles of muck and debris.

And as the Katrina cleanup continues,
New Orleans is under a new evacuation order because of Hurricane Rita that could bring a whole new set of problems.
