October 12, 2005 - HOLMES COUNTIANS ARE REACHING OUT TO HURRICANE EVACUEES. Jackie Brown (right) headed up a drive to collect items to meet the specific needs of people who are now in Holmes County after evacuating from the recent hurricanes that hit in Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas.
Eighty-seven families consisting of approximately 172 people from these three states are being invited to come to the National Guard Armory in Lexington and pick up items that have been donated by local churches, businesses and individuals. The distribution will take place on Saturday, Oct. 15 from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. Members of the Holmes County Board of Supervisors also assisted in the collection drive.
